KITAP
KITAP Indonesia: When Do You Need One?
Indonesia’s natural beauty and welcoming culture attract many foreigners seeking long-term residency. If you’re one of them, obtaining a KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit) will greatly simplify your life in the country.
A KITAP allows holders to stay for up to five years with multiple entries into Indonesia. However, if you don’t enter Indonesia within one year, the KITAP automatically becomes void.
Once it expires, you can either extend it for another five years or convert it to an unlimited KITAP, which requires reporting to immigration only every five years.
Requirements for KITAP
The Indonesian government issues a KITAP to foreigners holding a KITAS (Limited Stay Permit) and has strict requirements. Eligible applicants include:
- Foreigners married to an Indonesian citizen for at least two years (spouse-sponsored KITAS holders).
- Foreign investors, directors, or commissioners in a Limited Liability Company (current investor visa holders for three consecutive years).
- Foreigners planning to retire in Indonesia (holders of an Indonesian retirement visa).
- Indonesians regaining their citizenship.
